The Al Mutanabbi Starts Here Project

  My contribution to the project

March 5, 2007: A car bomb  targeted Al-Mutanabbi Street in Baghdad. The street has always been a book seller’s neighborhood. Thirty people died and over 100 were injured. Denial of free access to books and  information was the bomber's purpose. There are many sources of information on this project. The below link is a good source to start with.

More about the project

Beau Beausoleil, a poet and San Francisco book seller invited individual artist book makers to respond with art. Over 260 individuals have created books protesting this form of terrorism. I was fortunate to be asked to participate.
There have been exhibits around the world of the project books. In Rochester, NY the Monroe County Library will have all 260 books with an opening reception at the Central Library (downtown Rochester) on June 2, 2014. The exhibit continues until  September 2, 2014.
