Barbara Atkins: Barbara was a nurse in the US Army Medical Corps
during the Korean War. She served on a Hospital ship as well as
Hospitals in Korea and in the US.
Laura Tedrow at Monroe Community Hospital.
During the Korean War Laura was Assistant Chief of Staff,
Operations at the Ships Movement Desk, MSTS, US NAVY
in Seattle. She was one of the people keeping track of the
shipment of men and equipment to Korea.
During WWII Sergeant Gilbert Herrick served in North Africa
with the 443rd Antiacraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion.
He is a resident of Monroe Community Hospital and recently
celebrated his 100th birthday. The medals are: Purple Heart,
Good Conduct, Marksman Weapons Qualification,
North African Campaign, and World WarII Victory Medal.

and second from right, bottom row,1942. He and his US Army
Air Force crewmates flew out of Torretto Airfield, Italy in a B-24
Liberator Bomber named Umbriago. They attacked enemy oil
refineries, storage plants, aircraft factories, heavy industry and
targets of opportunity in France, Germany, Austria, Czechosloviakia,
Hungary, Romania and Yugoslavia.
Michael Carroll 7 July 2011 and standing on an Armored Personnel Carrier in Vietnam about
1967 author unknown). He served in the U.S. Military Assistance Command, Vietnam (MACV)
under command of General Creighton Abrams. Michael received the Army Commendation Medal
for heroism under fire.
Mary Jane Garner-Morton: While serving as a dietitian
in the US Army Medical Corps aboard the hospital ship
Emily H. M. Weder she participated in the evacuation
of wounded from Southern France after D Day.
As a Marine Corps Sergeant Anthony Albano served in both
Korean and Vietnam Wars.
Sam Condello served in Korea as a US Marine Corporal
Sam Bellanca, Seaman 1st Class: served with LST-502 during WW II.
He participated in the invasion of Normandy (June 1944), the invasion of
southern France (August and September 1944) and the assault
and occupation of Okinawa (May and June 1945).
Marian Smith: served as a Pharmacist’s mate Second Class V-10
during WW2. Her training was at USNTS in Bronx, NY and at USNH
at St. Albans, NY. She was stationed at USNTC and USNH, NTC in
Great Lakes, Illinois. She worked as a Hematology Technician and holds
the American Campaign and WW2 Victor Ribbons.
Bernie Hamilton: served during the Korean War in the Army's 6th Calvary Unit.
His grandmother had to sign for his enlistment him because he was only 17.
He was wounded three times, and received the Purple Heart.
Michael Barr: Was a Marine during the Korean war.
